WORLDS UPDATE: AUSTRALIA HAS FOUR LEFT STANDING |
|
July 29 WORLD HIPHOP NEWS, NOTES AND QUOTES Australia has four (4) hiphop dance crews left standing after Varsity crews JULIETTES and BOUYAN were both eliminated earlier today. Tomorrow, JUNIOR crews LIL JUSTICE (NSW) and DC KIDS CREW (ACT) will get some serious preliminary action against 35 other international crews from 1PM. ADULT crews ROYALE (QLD) and BLISS (ACT) will get a shot against 41 international crews from 6PM. For more action, visit www.hiphopinternational.com or follow TWITTER on www.twitter.com/HHIworlds THE GOSS At the DIRECTORS orientation, every country director was invited at the Presidential Suite for a meet and greet with HHI CEO Howard Shwartz and Karen Shwartz. It was an amazing experience, with every director sharing their love and passion about hiphop dance. Canadian director Steve Bolton candidly shared his first experience and reluctance in joining the World championship event, but he soon discovered that his judgement was wrong and eventually fell in love with the vision and mission of the dance project..... Bahamas, Italy, Belgium and Mexico are contemplating the idea of visiting Australia in the near future. All agreed in unison that the weather and beautiful people is a major attraction to them.... the 5th floor of RED ROCK was occupied with information booths, merchandising stalls, market stalls, and dance crews practising for the prelims ... special guests PHILIPPINE ALLSTARS rocked up with two (2) crew members: SHEENA and DEO, who were busily taking photographs and signing autographs with star struck fans .... we got a chance to eat the popular American dish that comedian Jo Koy talks about : ORANGE CHICKEN. Very nice in the tummy.... Japan and the USA were the only crews that swept the Varsity Division, with all three of their entrants advancing into the SEMI-FINAL ROUND.... on the other hand, eight (8) countries failed to get a single crew into the next round, including AUSTRALIA, Switzerland, Brazil, Romania, Russia, Denmark, Netherlands and South Africa .... NZ crews Request and Sweet and Sour proudly lead the Kiwi delegation, who quickly adapted to the hot sun of Vegas .... Vuvuzelas did find its way into Las Vegas, and truthfully are annoying - whoever invented this? LOL. The Aussies Lil Justice got the short end of the stick as they were drawn to perform first overall in the JUNIOR DIVISION. DC Kids Crew will be the 12th crew that will dance .... Bliss will also be the 12th crew to perform in the ADULT DIVISION, while ROYALE will be the 21st group.... eliminated crews Bouyan (#3) and Juliettes (#34) danced earlier in the day. Australian Director and team captain MARCO SELORIO got a first-hand look at the WORLD HIPHOP CHAMPIONSHIP operations and loved what he saw. "Howard and his management are on the ball, very professional and got the World event locked down. Kudos to their hard working HHI team." What has Bliss, Bouyan and Royale have in common? Love for shopping. Yup, the American stuff is much, much cheaper according to the three crews, with one of the Bouyan members buying four (4) pairs of Vans shoes for an expensive price of $50 USD. Wait til they get a chance to visit the wholesale outlets. |

Tomorrow, the JUNIOR DIVISION prelims and ADULT DIVISION prelims commence from 1pm and 6pm respectively. The heat is driving all tourists mad across Sin City, yet the stunning Red Rock Resort, Spa and Casino seems to be the perfect getaway for all dancers. It was at the Opening Ceremony that got the Red Rock security on alert as hundreds upon hundreds of street dancers, bboys, freestylers, poppers and lockers cheered and danced their way into the main ballroom. Hip Hop International CEO Howard Shwartz opened the festivities with a rousing welcoming speech, then each one of the 30+ international delegates introduced their respective crews and got the crowd excited. Vuvuzelas from the South Africans, ole ole cheers from the Irish, the haka from the New Zealanders, and a "C-A-N-A-D-A what" chant from the Canadians set the amazing vibe this afternoon. Every country director was invited on stage by host Mooki and AJ. Australia's captain and country director Marco Selorio was first on the mic to welcome the adoring crowd with an Aussie Aussie Aussie shout, who was soon followed by Brazil and France directors sharing their joy at representing their countries. New Zealand's very own Noelz Paea shared the hiphop movement's influence in turning kids away from drugs and alcohol, while Japanese Emiko Sasaki saluted her 125-strong delegation, by far the biggest contingent of the competition. It was a crazy first day for the Australians as well. First to hand over their national flag, the Australians received their first warning for dancing barefoot on stage during the sound check and practice run. Five groups arrived on time, while sixth and final group ROYALE Crew was the last group to make their way into Red Rock. Two crews represented Australia in the Varsity Division, West Sydney's very own BOUYAN and national varsity champions JULIETTES (QLD). Both crews danced their hearts out, but the inexperience did not help as both crews bowed out of of the preliminaries. Only nineteen (19) crews advanced into the VARSITY SEMI-FINALS which will be held on Friday, July 30. Click more for VARSITY DIVISION RESULTS. |
