October 16 GROOVE Canberra was the final qualification leg for World Supremacy Battlegrounds (WSB), and this year the participation reached sky-high. Over 200 dancers hit the stage last Saturday October 15 at Stromlo High School as twenty-two dance crews battled it out for a place in WSB 2011. Three crews came out on top, with BLISS claiming the Open Division title in the most hotly-contested category of the night. DC Crew continued their winning ways and won the Varsity Division after previously winning the HHI crown earlier in the year. Last but definitely not the least, ILLAGROOVERS wowed the judges and won the Junior Division. Groove judges BJ Concepcion, Errol Cenita & David Capree had their plate full as Canberra stepped up this year and elevated their dancing to a higher level. Special guest performers included Groove touring MC Mix & DJ Who, DJ Maribelle, Roge Balobalo, Blake Appleqvist, Haref Skeez, Urban Lava Juniors and Urban Lava Preps. A four-man daddy dougie battle broke the ice in the beginning of the show, while the solo freestyle battle on stage that featured numerous b-boys and dancers got the crowd pumped. We would like to thank the support of Mel Twidale, and special thanks to the following studios that showed love, including Dance Central, Impressions, Fresh Funk Studios, Bom-Funk, Miss Cay's Ministry of Dance, Dynamic Studios, Project Beats Studios & Urban Lava. GROOVE Canberra is proudly supported by The Canberra Times, Nudge Photography, MonkeyBar (official after party venue), Subsdance studio, Bannerman, Nesian Street Clothing and GrooveTV.
